Correct colouring should be 100% black plumage. Incorrect colouring would have gold or silver showing, usually in the hackles on males, breast on females, although it could be hackles.

If they get much sun at all the feathers will bleach into a muddy look. There should be no question about the black being black. If there is, it isn't, or the feathers are sunburned. Even a little sun can burn them.
