Sorry to avoid the subject but maybe you should try some active breeds instead of Cochins? Birds that can fly out of trouble. Cochins are cute and I've never had any but I've lost all kinds of other breeds.
The only breeds I haven't lost (touch wood) are Andalusian, Minorca, and Lakenvelders. They are (touch wood) too smart and too fast for predators. At least where I live, but we don't have cougars in VA.
I'm trying Delawares, Plymouth Rocks and Wyandottes new and free range this year, so we'll see how they do. So far so good.
