I have 200 birds and i need the proper composition so that i can make my own feeds, instead of buying bag of feed. The bag feeds are too much cost (ksh3000-3500)($37-$40). Also would it be cheaper for me to compose my own feeds, rather than buying them from the local store per bag? How much do you thin i would save by doing this?

here's my basic feed recipe:

To make 25 pounds:

7.5 pounds corn
7.5 pounds wheat
5 pounds field peas
2.5 pounds oats

Grind all of the above, then mix in

1.5 pound fish meal
.5 pound Fertrell Nutri-Balancer
.25 pound dried kelp
.75 pound flax seed

This comes out to about 15% protein. The nutri-balancer, kelp, and flax are optional, but nice to have. Think of the NutriBalancer as a multivitamin.

Anyway, this is a basic recipe, and a lot depends on what's available in your area. And if you want to buy a grinder. ;) For instance, if you just mixed cracked corn, wheat, oats and fish meal, you'd have a pretty good feed.

There are lots of possibilities -- this article

http://www.backyardpoultrymag.com/issues/2/2-3/Harvey_Ussery1.html shows how to calculate protein levels with different ingredients.
