I have recently got a pair of button quails about two weeks ago and they just started laying eggs. They have been together for about 2 weeks now and are 2 and a 1/2 months old but are currently not nesting on their eggs. I am wondering if those eggs are fertile and if not what should I do to would do with them. Thanks!

The eggs should be fertile. Are the eggs all laid in the same location? If so your hen may go broody. Remove the male when the hen has about 6 eggs laid. When the full clutch (about 10) is laid the hen will pull the eggs together and make a nest around them. Button quail are odd in that the nest is made after the eggs are laid. Be sure to have plenty of nesting material where the eggs are being laid. Good luck!

Oh Thanks so much! I need the luck to if im gonna be dealin with their babies!

They're actually fairly easy to raise once you know what to do. When the chicks hatch feed them ground dried mealworms, hard boiled egg, ground mash all mixed together. I used to raise them in my science classroom. It made a great project; the children loved it. The bigger the pen the better; hens seem to go broody faster. We did have one hen that would go broody in a ten gallon fish tank.
