my quail had its eye swollen shut when i went to check on her but upon closer inspection she has no eye. i dont know how it happened but the area is very swollen. is there anything to reduce inflammation ? i refuse to put her down because she is eating and drinking but she is staying inside the coop. i think she is adjusting o having one eye. pls help im desparate i would hate for her to get an infection that kills her.

Oh noooo!!! I don't have any experience in this area, but hope someone here can help your sweet girl.

If the side of her head is swollen its possible she hasn't lost the eye, you might not be able to see it because of the swelling. I have had two that were pecked by other quail and I thought they lost the eye. Then when the swelling went down the eye was still there and they were fine. I would give her some time and see if the swelling goes down.

They can survive with just one eye, I had one hatch that way and she was the calmest sweetest bird of the hatch.

she is the only bird i have. i opened her eyelid and there is just a divot where the eye should be. i also see what may be blood or eye remnants on the side of her head. im going out to clean the area with just some warm water. dont know how this happened but i feel so bad for her.

Are you sure she has no eye?

We had a chicken rooster last summer that got pecked in the eye and his eye became so swollen that even when opened it appeared he had no eye. I've also had this happen with one of our male coturnix quail.

Apparently she got into a fight with one of your other quail?

You may need to separate her from the other birds so she doesn't get picked on. You can buy terramycin opthalmic ointment(sold for dogs and cat but also in livestock supplies I believe as well). We always keep some on hand.

It's a small tube and only a very tiny tiny bit is needed. Of course don't touch the tip to her eye. Wash your hands and use one finger tip to place a Tiny amount into her eye.

she is the only bird. we got rid of the rest of the flock but i kept her because she was rejected by them. i have no clue how this happened but i do hope she still have an eye if that is the case.
