i got this in a new hampshire red pullet run....however its black with some red, some white, and when the sun hits just right green and a bluish purple. does anyone know what it is, and is it a hen or a roo?

If your talking about this black chicken, it's not a new hampshire red!....The one next to it is possibly. Could be a mix. The green and blue that you see is when the light hits thier feathers...I think it's very pretty, all black chickens look like that. How old? This could is very big and red...I'm guessing roo.

i knew it wasnt a new hampshire just wasnt sure of what it was, or the sex, but ty yu really helped and about 4 months old

if its already four months its a hen!

so how can you tell? im really new to this, and i had a bunch of hens last year i thought were roosters til they laid lol

its a hen because if it was a rooster at four months it would have a larger comb and waddles and probably be crowing by now
