Ditto.
I have "junk" in my runs for them to roost on in the daytime, but my pens are just that PENS with a sheltered area of the pen. I have to make sure that the actual ROOST that I want them to sleep on is the tallest so that they sleep in the area that predators can't reach though --- also I keep the "toy" roosts in the very CENTER so that they are too far from the sides should they try sleeping "outside" sometime. Having junk in the run (old shipping crate/pallet thing for roosting and log rounds, etc) DOES give them something to climb on and they do sit on them a lot in the daytime, but as stated it also makes for a bit of an obstacle course for me to get around in there especially when I have my annoying/meanish roo jumping at me. Yeah it may be a pro to the chickens, but it's definitely a con to me. Oh well, the things I do for my feather kids
