Farmer down the road is giving us some medium to dark brown eggs to hatch eggs to hatch. Hens are all what he calls Comets roosters are a rode Island Red and a couple Black barred. can anyone help me find info on comet breed?

Comets are not a breed, they're a hybrid of usually something like RIR and Leghorn, thus they aren't on the page. They're also referred to as Sex Links.

I think they may be there, just listed as Sex Links or something else. . .

Cackle Hatchery sells them. Here is the description from their site: The Golden Comets are one of three Modern Day Brown egg laying strains from hybrid breeding that produce fast body development and fast egg production. These strains will start to lay eggs at a younger age than most standard breeds and produce big brown eggs. They are also color sexable as chicks, cockerels are white, and the pullets are more brownish red in color

Also known as Red or Black stars.....I ordered some reds from MPC and got blacks at the feed store. I'm kinda fond of them!

But you will not be able to sex chicks from comet hens by color.

You can sex day old Golden Comet chicks. There a Sex-Linked breed and the chicks should come Red to a Red/Buff (Pullets) and Yellowish/White (Cockerels)
The Red type Sex-Linked chickens go under lots of names - Golden Comet, Red Stars, Cinnamon Queens, Ambers, Amber-Links, ISA Brown etc.

I think Becky was referring to the comet off-spring. Since they are a mix/hybred breed, their off-spring will not be consistant enought o sex by color as the comets themselves are.
