Can these chicks be outside?

View attachment 1283658 Hello, I just bought them today and needed to know if they should still be kept inside or not. They are mostly feathered with a little chick fuzz. I'm not sure what age they are. Our weather here is pretty snowy and in the 20s but colder at night. Thank you

A photo of the chicks will help. I would provide them heat any time it is below freezing, day or night until they are bigger. This does not necessarily mean they need to be in the house. If it is that cold they could possibly be locked in the coop where they are more protected. Young chicks in a new home don't always understand to go up the ramp and back into the coop when they get too cold.

You don't wanna shock them and throw them out in 20* straight away for long periods of time, but you can start with field trips in the afternoons. As long as they are being active and scratching around they are doing ok.

I agree with pirategirl. Its a system shock if they are used to inside temps.

They are old enough to start to be acclimated, just take it slow. Too much too soon and you can end up with illness in your flock if they are stressed.
