Can they be with chickens?

Well the guy i bought them from had peafowl, tons of chickens, call ducks, geese, turkey, rabbit, and guineas. But all his were pnned up, would that make a difference? because every pin was about 4ft apart, but then again he did have the baby peachicks, turkey poults, and ducklings up on a hill maybe 50ft away from everything else. If i kept them away from chickens til they were older would that b ok? I assumed they would be more likely to get when there young. Is there anything that can cure that blackhead disease?

I was wondering the same thing (can chickens and peas live together?) and I'm also 15 and don't have a job, so I guess we're in the same boat.

My current plan is to have them separated in the summer, but have them together in the winter (for complicated reasons, which I won't go into). Is blackhead the disease they get from earthworms or is that some other disease that I read about? We've raised the chickens from babies - can they still be carriers of blackhead? Can someone post a link to info on blackhead?

When I had a coop I had turkeys, peas, ducks, and chickens together. I never had a problem. All of those birds are free range now, and still no problems. But like others it just depends on your flock I guess, and personal preference of course.

This is what an artical says ''Histomoniasis, commonly called "Blackhead" is an infectious intestinal disease caused by the protozoa Histomonas meleagridis. Birds are most susceptible between 6 and 14 weeks of age. Symptoms are watery, sulfur-colored droppings, drowsiness, and weakness. The causative agent is shed in the feces of the infected birds and then contracted by susceptible birds as they feed from the floor and litter. Histomoniasis can be controlled by specific medication of a bird or flock at the onset of an outbreak or prevented with the use of a histomonastat, drug specific from Histomoniasis, in the feed. Presently there are no FDA approved Histomonastats. Currently, Metronidazole (Flagyl), copper sulfate, and Histostat are the medications used for the treatment of Blackhead.'' So does that mean that if i gave them all a supplement i could put my peas with my chickens?

I give my turkeys medicated turkey starter, which prevents blackhead in turkeys, and I free range my chickens, and turkeys. The turkeys are over a year old, and I have had chickens for 9 years, so far I have not have any issues!

I have a Buff Orpington/EE cross sitting on 6 IB eggs that are due to hatch next week.

I will let her raise them. I will be giving them medicated turkey starter when they hatch.

Well I hear so many opinions on this...some say absolutely not and others say its okay. All I can tell you for sure is what I have experienced. I have had peafowl and chickens living together for ten years. I have never had any illness, worms or problems of any kind. In my opinion if you keep everything well maintained and clean and worm twice a year, you should have no problems.

I have over 20 peas and at least 60 chickens.

If you HAVE to keep them with chickens, wait until they are maybe a year old that way they will be past the stage of being fragile and will be less likely to die suddenly.

Yes some keep chickens and peafowl together, some don't. I don't have any other kind of bird but peafowl so I can't say much on the subject but a lot of local peafowl breeders keep chickens in the same pen as their peafowl, in fact one keeps guinea pigs in with here peafowl but anyways as long as you make sure the birds are healthy and maybe treat all your chickens before keeping peafowl in with them it will hopefully be okay, but I just wouldn't chance it because I love my peas too much...

Now that i think about it i got guineas for the first time last year, i bot 52, and well they just started dieingi ddnt no what it was but by the time i go the right mdicine only 21 were left. And i think it was the black heead thing i even hd a couple chickens die but after i meiated their water they were fine. I think when they are past that viable age i will put them in with my chickens. And i no at least one hen has that disease----> but she is doing better i clean the poop off her bottom and she seem more healthy. And i saw a cuple who had yellow bottoms so im going to get them some meds. And when they are all healthy ill let my peas out, And i use medicated chick starter-----> maybe thats why my silkies dont have it, Oh and the hen thats sick i am feeding her med. chcik starter too maybe thats why shes getting better ether way got to clean her it builds up.
