depends on the size of ur chicks id say. but it should work. and firebugfab sounds like u got the rite idea to me

Hi, i just welcomed a baby banty in my chicken family (1 banty rooster,2 banty hens,1buff ,and 1 cherry egger)and that little bugger can fit through anything!!!my chicken pen is a 10 by 12 dog kennel with chicken wire around the bottom. i also put one of those dog fences (looks like a baby play yard) it has very small holes and my little one can still fit through. his mama keeps a close eye on him though and when we come in the pen they both run for the little area i set up for them. i will post pictures soon! good luck,terri

This is what I have on the pen outside and when one of the hens hatched out a batch of chicks one of them did fit through the holes. These were silkies.

My newly hatched chick went right through the 1x1 wire on the rabbit hutch she was in with her momma. I put 1" chicken wire over that and she couldn't get through anymore. I like the idea of using screen material around it also.
