If you are having an issue with a heat source that provides light, just get a "reptile " ceramic heat coil. They have them in 100, 150, 200 and 250 watt units.
I have converted ALL my heat sources to these and they seem to last. I us the 150 watt ones and it keep the electric bill almost manageable. The 250 watt red or white heat lamps used to spin my meter just a bit too fast.
