Can this be used as coop bedding?

I've a sack full of wood coils and i was wondering if it can be used as coop bedding?

I really dont know tbh. Though if it was hardwood would it damage them in any way?
Not sure. When I was showing horses, I know of some owners that had black walnut toxicity affect their horses. I didn't see any indication that chickens suffered from it. Most chickens will not eat shavings. If they have no more aroma than pine shavings, I'd use them.
 
Ok so now that i put the bedding out i see very small little insects moving around. Im afraid they might get on the chickens and irritate them. There any way i can clean the bedding?

Were you using a planer or.....?
As long as they didn't come from another flock's coop, I'd not worry about it.
There are thousands of kinds of insects around, very few of them are chicken pests.
Yeah i was using a planer, nah it didnt come form another coop.
