Can we build it? Yes we can... probably... kind of!

Very curious how accurate where they in your view ?

Well, the chicks that I had sexed are only 3 weeks old, so the jury is still out. But the IDed cockerels have leg bands on, so I’ll continue to watch and see what happens. They have a Facebook page with positive reviews, and they cite a 99% accuracy rate, so I would say it should be pretty accurate.

The final touch for the girls' coop came in today. I'm going to surprise them with it tomorrow when I go over to help them start their raised bed garden.

They named most of their chickens with a Disney Moana theme. It was so cute that I had to order one for my coop too. I've been busy this winter (in between building the coop for the girls) adding a few upgrades to my coop - we made the the nesting boxes larger, added a poop tray underneath the roosts and I repainted the exterior of the coop.

When the coop was at our house, the HOA told us it had to be the same color as our house (an ugly yellowy-tan color) but now that the coop is on our acreage, I decided I was not going to look at our ugly shed and coop for one more season, and painted them both light gray. SO much better!

Love the coop signs!

Today was the last day at the girls' coop. The chicks have been in it for over a week now, and so far no complaints! We added the hardware cloth apron all the way around the coop and run. It's 36" wide on all sides, which is probably overkill, but we had some leftover 36" and I didn't feel like cutting it down. The husband covered the wire with sand and viola, a finished coop!

I also brought them one of my 4x8 raised beds and we started a garden this morning. They are SUPER excited about it, and have already given the chicks some of the herbs from the garden. The girls are being homeschooled this year, which is why they're always around for the projects, just in case anyone thought they were drop outs. ;)

Here's the finished product!

Are you collecting rain water and using that to water your flock?
Yes. I live in Florida, so no lack of water here. I have a 55 gallon rain barrel connected to rain gutters.
Here's a vid of my build. 6:45 in the vid is the part where I discuss my watering system.
