Can we build nest boxes off the run, not the coop?

We live in Florida and are in the midst of building our coop and run. The end of the run happens to be closer to the house, and I was wondering if one could build nest boxes on the side of the run, as opposed to the coop. It's warm pretty much year round here, so that isn't an issue. The coop itself is small, but we could do exterior nest boxes...but they would be on the far side of the coop, and inconvenient.

I don't think I want to do interior nest boxes as it will cut down on interior space, which is already _just_ enough.

Thoughts?

I have an exterior nest box near the entrance of my run. It works they use it I havent had any complaints. It's not even a real nesting box its a toy box

Thank you! we were thinking of 5 gallon plastic boxes, raised, with a slanted roof. Good to know itt works.

Sure. I would be sure that they are protected from rain and direct sun. Our birds tend to use the nest boxes that are in low light places. Laying under the loafing bench in the goat house is a dark place and I often find eggs there.
