Can you add mature hens to a flock of young pullets.

I used to have 10 chickens but 7 turned out to be roosters so i only have 3 now. They are almost 4 months old now. I want to get some more chickens but i didn't want to deal with chicks in the brooder. Can i get adult hens or do i need the same age as them.

You can get 'started pullets,' which have just laid or are waiting to lay their first eggs.
You can also get hens, but it is easier to tell the age of pullets based on body type. Where are you located?

How many are intending to get? Slightly younger pullets would be ideal, but either way if you follow a systematic approach to integration then it should be ok. Get whatever age and size chicks, pullets, or hens that strike your fancy. But do remember that in the world of chickens there are winners and there are losers.

Don't attempt to get an easy going breed and pair it with an aggressive one. To do so is unfair to both breeds.
