She's almost grown back what was pecked. She'll definitely need another trim and blue dye job before we reintroduce them.

Some sad news

I took some time off before I was ready to post but I lost 4 of the 5 bantams I got from Myers. I only have Elma left and the two Silkies from Red Barn. All of SFH’s are just fine.

I believe it was a dog or maybe a fox. I left them free ranging for maybe a half hr. because the kids needed me and when I came back out they were not alive and all the others had hidden.

Fly high Gemma, Gia, Maple, and Oakley.

I do not think I will be getting anymore Bantams. Pebble, Nyx, and Elma will be it I think. Maybe next spring I will look at some smaller breeds like the Shetland’s to cross the divide without risking more bantams.
So-o-o sorry that happened :hugs

TY for posting though. It reaffirms my opinion about the toughness, speed, smarts, etc, that Silkies have, to move fast during danger alerts. Our Silkies disappear in the blink of an eye when the hawks are nearby. Either that or your littler ones were just easier prey. Again, so very very sorry...

Here's Annie not happy about Shehani right there at their run. He was out of their run with the pullets. She's making this persistent whine at him. This is right after fighting through the fence, they pecked at each other and Shehnai brought his feet up briefly before going back to tidbitting.
You're going to have to get a xylophone for your musical pecking hen :lauShe's got talent!

The hawk was small and weaving through the trees, so likely a Coopers hawk instead of the Redtailed.
Cooper's are excellent flyers... & low too... they like to grab w/their talons to grab running prey. Sometimes I think they enjoy doing that in flight, like a game! Glad your boys were on the alert!

Mine is the 250.
I also have Baytril, which I forgot about, so I will start with that. I still need figure out how to use the fish mox. Funny they changed the name.

@featherhead007 says he uses 1/3 capsule over canned corn but have no idea what mg size he has. Probably 250 like yours but it also comes 500.

Getting the Band Back Together

Today was a big day. This afternoon Niamh chose to leave the house and rejoin the other chickens. Her she is out and about!

One of the first things she did was take a bath!

Come bedtime there was no debate about where to sleep. Up she went!

She is now in the nest box with Joy enjoying the heat from the heater. It should be nice and toasty for them tonight.
So nice to see her tail up 💕

Are the feet feather chickens any more work to maintain than other chickens?
I wasn't planning on getting one but I didn’t look at the feet of the chicks when I bought them.
So now I have a feather foot chicken. 😂
We've had many feathered feet birds ~ both Silkies & Breda's... our climate is mild... no snow. However, I've seen owners shovel snowpaths for their Silkies. All depends on what you want to do for your feather footed birds. They are hardy, just so caked mud doesn't dry on their foot/leg feathers. Other than that they are like any other chicken.

Remember when Phyllis flipped herself over shaking out of a dust bath. These smaller ladies with large wing to body ratio can have issues.
We need to see that video again. It was the cutest thing!
