I've heard of some people being able to do this, but I can't find any info on the catalog for the show (and have yet to hear back from the secretary who runs it). It's a state show if that makes a difference.

Is it standard to be able to do this? I've never gone to one before.

People rarely bring animals for sale along to a show. However, it is a good place to get in contact with breeders that might have animals for sale back at home. It's also a really good opportunity to see the quality that particular breeders produce and to learn more about breeds that you are interested in.

A lot of people sell their animals at my local (county) show--and a lot of the reason people show their animals is so that they can get higher prices for the progeny of their winning breeder stock. But at a state show, I'm willing to bet that they've traveled for a while and they didn't bring extras.

You're also likely to pay more at a state show, so unless you want pure-bred stock, you may be better off to go elsewhere.

I also warn you that scamming sometimes happens--something doesn't conform to type, and so the breeder sells it to the first sucker who comes along, often at an exorbitant price (oh, I didn't want to sell this future champion to just anyone, but I can see you'll take good care of her...)Research what you want before you buy.

That said, I know a lot of people who have satisfactory experiences buying at (county) shows, and it's a great place to make connections and learn more. Talk to the people who babble on about their animals like they're their children and don't shut up--those guys are far less likely to care about money.

Have you contemplated adoption? Unless you are going to breed, I recommend looking at rabbits who need a home. A lot of bunnies are abandoned in about under a year from most people.

I mostly buy rabbits at shows. Sometimes you can also find some on Craigslist. Always check inside ears, sex, and bite of a rabbit you are considering and quarantine away from others you own. Good luck.

What are you plan to do with it? If you plan to raise for meat, Craigslist is the best. The price is very cheap or reasonable.
