can you eat eggs with medicated feed?

So we have been getting a few eggs a week from a couple of our chickens so far. Only 3 are laying that we can tell. However I have been "wasting" them. I hate doing that but I still have a bunch of the medicated chick feed left and even though we have been starting to mix the layer feed in together to switch them over they are still eating it. I dont know what exactly is IN the medicated so is it ok for us to eat their eggs? I guess that is sort of silly but I just don't know what medicine we would be ingesting because I don't even understand why it is medicated. I have not filled their feeder in a couple of days so they are almost at the end of the food they have now. I still have 1/2 a bag of chick starter left but it will probably be another month to finish it. So do I keep wasting eggs, switch them to complete layer feed, or what? Thanks!!!

It depends what it's medicated with. If you don't have the bag any more, can you find out from the store where you bought it?

The first bag I had was Nutrena Medicated. The 2nd bag I bought at a Tractor supply and it was labeled "chick starter" and I just mixed them together. I don't know whether it was medicated or not. So it sounds like I may just want to wait till I switch them completely. Do you know how long I should wait to "get it out of their system?" I hate throwing away these eggs although my kids have been doing experiments with them and think it is cool! Thanks.

When you find out what the medication is, call your county extension agent (if you are in the US) and ask them.

Nothing wrong with finishing up the grower as feed for layers as long as they have oyster shell available for the calcium. Most feed is medicated with amprolium. If this is the case, the medicated feed is safe both for ducks and people's eggs. Problem is that occasionally feeds are medicated with an antibiotic or other substances. Used to have arsenic in it which was indeed fatal to ducks. I't a matter of finding out what the feed is medicated with. You should know this when buying feed anyway, as it is essentially never OK to use an antibiotic in this manner, and you certainly don't want to be buying feed that has the old arsenic compound in it. Amprolium is a thiamine inhibitor and won't hurt anyone.

can you tell me anything about eating eggs if the chicks had gamebird feed which had lasalocid in it. i took all of it up and replaced with Layena today but can i eat the dozen or so i have and when will it be ok to give eggs to grandchildren? thanks s
