Can you feed your Chickens Meat?

My old hens will hang around the butcher table and pick up any scraps that fall to the ground when I'm butchering the meat chickens. They'll even eat the chunks of coagulated blood from under the killing cone. It's amusing in a very macabre sort of way.

My chickens go wild over bologna and hot dogs. But I don't give it to them every day, only once in a while as a treat. They can reconize a slice of bologna when I come out of the house with it. They are not very good at telling the differenc between a hot dog and a finger.

My chickens love it when I roast a whole turkey or chicken and put out the carcass for them to pick. It's kinda disturbing to see one of them running with a drumstick in its mouth and the others chasing behind!

At the risk of this thread going political, and getting locked, I really have to write this.

To be honest, I can understand the health debate as we all want healthy flocks, but the "ethics"? Since a processed twinkie does not occur in nature, (other than the raw ingredients I guess, although it's been years since I've even bought -- much less ate -- a twinkie, and do not know what they are made of, you really lost me on the ethics question. Chickens will eat their own given the opportunity. What can be less ethical than that? Wow.

Mine go nuts when they see me pull something dead out of my truck (Im a very avid hunter, trapper, and fisherman) because they know that there is going to be a pile of scraps for them to make disapear.

I had the opportunity to observe a non poisonous snake attempt to go through the run. I would not have wanted to be that snake. My RIR rooster (Red) and Buff Orpington hens (Henrietta and Bessie) made short order of him. So yes they like fresh meat. I haven't fed them meat other than my wife helping to dig worms for them lol.

I don't actively feed mine chunks of meat, and I would never feed them chicken. Not too fond of cannibalism.

But if I had some leftovers from dinner I would.
