Can you get into your run?

Really stressing the run part of the build coming up next and while I plan on getting that part done next week, I am stressed about how to be able to get into the run, or is it really necessary at all? Can you get into your run?

It may make it difficult to get your chickens out, or clean out the run if you have no access to it (unless your chickens are very well trained)

We are building ours now and the run portion is about 20' x 27' and it is 6' high so myself and my husband can both walk around inside of it comfortably. I wanted a run that I can walk around in freely. You need to be able to catch chickens and retrieve them, plus you need to be able to clean and fill feed and water comfortably, I think.

I don't have nearly that much room. More like 12x 10. I am just trying to figure out the easiest way to install a door for me. A carpenter, I have come to realize this month, I am NOT!!!!

Don't worry. I am pretty handy with things but the doors were the hardest part. You could try to buy a premade door or try a gate kit. Show some pics. Maybe we can help with a visual. Good luck.

Thanks!! I am just feeling nervous bc the coop part has been so hard for us, winging it building the first thing ever! Ha!! I will post some ideas when I get going!

I have an opening on both ends. If not my boy is still small enough to get in

I wouldn't even think about not being able to get in the run and/or coop ....

Doors are easier than you think ... what kind of door would you like? A screened door? solid?

My first run I would have to crawl if I wanted to get into it. It lasted 5 months before I tore it down and went with a dog kennel with a built in door.
never again will I make a short run without a door or gate.

I love that I can get into my run. I would suggest it if you can swing it. You can get in for feeding, watering, or getting ahold of a chicken if you want to. My first run was only 4' high, and attached to the corner of the coop by nails. I'd have to unhook it and stoop or crawl in to do what needed to be done. I think you'll appreciate being able to walk around in there. Here are a couple of pictures of my run so you can get an idea of what it looks like. My run is 12'x16', and is 6' high.
