Hello, could anyone help estimate how old my Golden Comet hen is please? Or tell me what signs to look for in this breed, that determine their age. Thanks in advance.

Thanks everyone, we just got her a few weeks ago, so I'm not sure if she's went through her winter molt or not, I'm going to assume yes. My guess was close to 2. What is the life span for the golden comet?

She can live for several more years. But she is pretty much done laying though at around 2 - 2.5 years old as a general rule in high production breeds. One or two eggs a week after 2 years old maybe. There are always exceptions though of course.

Thanks for the info. She has a sister, we bought the pair, her sister has only laid 2 eggs in the past few weeks, and she has not laid any. I thought it might have been due to stress from the move, but I also told my husband that they could be older hens. He bought them off of a friend who told him they were a year old lol

I'm not worried about the eggs. They have the best temperament of any chicken breed, and I have Cochin and Silkie breeds that I thought were pretty chill and docile until I met these 2 girls. Looks like the guy who had them before us was wanting to get rid of them because they can no longer produce. They can live out the rest of their days here. My husband likes the eggs of course, but I like them for pets lol
