Can you guys tell me what my son just bought?

My son and his dad went to the local feed store and came home with these. My son used his own money to buy them so I hope he didn't get taken advantage of. He's only six. I know they're quail but that's about it. Can someone tell me more about them please. Thanks

They look like Golden Coturnix.

The top looks like a male and the bottom looks like a female...can't tell for sure from the pics though.

I had some of those a while back...my dh nephew called and asked him if we wanted some "wierd lookin chickens". We went to pick them up and yeah, they weren't chickens. We told they were button quails but didn't know where we could get more. So, we got rid of them..I enjoyed the sounds they made. May get some more eventually....

They are definitely not Button quail, unless they are a LOT smaller than they look....like the size of a mouse.

They're about the size of a robin maybe. Definately not as small as a mouse. He paid $12 for the two of them was that a decent price?

I appreciate you all taking time to answer for my son. You've given us something to google and learn about. He's loving them. I must admit I like how quiet they seem to be. Are they always like that or are they lulling me into a false sense of security.

They are pretty. If he enjoys them, they are worth the money.

The male is lulling you into a false sense of security, LOL. My male wouldn't stop crowing once he got comfortable. Maybe my lil booger was the abnormality, but he could go on and on for gosh...what seemed like thirty or forty minutes at a time. It's alright during the day, but say at three, four or so in the morning...it got a bit...er...unnerving.

If he enjoys them, then that is definitely money well spent!
