Hi all,
Haven't posted in a while. But that's good news. Things have been going well. I have 7 hens laying well, and 15 new girls, eight weeks old.

But today I got my 7 Cuckoo Maran chicks from Ideal and of course, they added 3 males for warmth. Two look like Ameraucanas (they are light with the chipmunk stripes) and then this third one, which is cute as all get out, but I have no idea what he is. He's a soft chocolate brown (darker down the middle of his back), his head seems large (or extra fluffy), he has dark circles around his eyes and puffy feathers on his cheeks. In fact, I just brushed some feathers out of his eyes (will this be a problem for him?). I think his legs are brown.

Oh, drat. It's been so long since I posted a pic, I've forgotten how. I'll keep working on it. But if you could give me some breeds to look up on feathersite, I could take it from there...

Any guesses?

He is adorable and looks identical to one of my Ameracauna girls when she was little. Esp. because of the cheek poofs and the coloration. She was the exact same color and has turned out to be a stunning chicken, orangey bronze and black colored. My bet is on Ameracauna.

I purchased my "Ameracaunas" from C.M. Estes and Cackle Hatchery, both through feed stores. Not sure if they are Ameracauna or EE, I guess I tend to use Ameracauna more when talking about these guys.

I'm betting shades of black and bronze for his chicky!

I just got 10 barred rock chicks and 5 Ameracauna chicks today..... He looks just like one of the Ameracauna chicks I got !!!!

Awesome, guys - thanks for the input. I'd love more EEs (I have 3 current layers that I love), although this should be a rooster, and that puts his destiny in peril. We'll see how he grows up. I'll check back in a month or so and let you know what's happening with him. I'll also check out the chicks of the other breeds you mentioned, just to see.

At one day old, they're ALL irresistable!
Blessings,
