I ordered her as an Australorp and got her as a day old chick. This is my third round of hens, and my third Australorp. But now, she's 4.5 months old and not developed like a normal Australorp. She lays cream eggs, and not often. She only has a partial comb and it's not red or very developed yet. No wattle yet. Her tail feathers stick up pretty high compared to my old Australorps, and she's got a longer neck. No greenish tinge, just a pretty solid black all over. Black feet. Personality wise, she is a bit on the "wild" side - skittish, chirps a little differently than my other hens, and is kind of a loner. Not friendly like my oldies were...she's hard to catch.

One person suggested she was a Black Sumatra. One that she was a Black Sex Link. From Google searches, I think she looks like the Svarthona and the Ayam Cemani (but doubtful she's a rare breed...right??).

I ordered her from a small chick supply store in St. Paul. They order them from a breeder in Iowa, I believe.

Give me your best guess!

I have no idea...sumatras have long tails that are carried very low. Black sex links have some reddish feathers and lay almost every day. Ayams would have all black faces, combs, beaks, and legs. She does look like a Svart hona, but I agree that it is unlikely that you would get one. What hatchery is she from?

EggPlant in St Paul, but they use a hatchery in Iowa...I don’t know the name. Here she is as a day-old chick. She DID look like an Australorp as a baby, but the cream eggs are off.

Hmm...neither Hoover's or Murray McMurray, both in Iowa and both regular suppliers of farm store chicks carry Svart honas.

Full ayam cemani chickens are black to the bone, even the skin. If I remember correctly. Correct me if i'm wrong.

These look a bit like what you have (not my pic) I've never heard of them before though. They're called kadaknaths. I don't see them on any hatcheries though. It's very unlikely that you'd get rare breeds at a farm store... I'm stumped!
