Can you let 4 wk old chickens run free outside?

Hi. I was wondering if i can let my chickens roam free outside by themselves. they are about 3 to 4 week old chicks. Any Advice???

I guess we're not sure here if you mean out to a nice, safe, coop/run by themselves or just turn them loose, outside all by themselves.

Out to a good coop/run, sure. Free range alone? Yeah, you can, but you probably won't have them very long. Chicks raised by a broody would at least have had a mama hen to teach them when to hide etc. Youngsters all alone and with no flock to learn from won't last long.

Mine are not going to free range until they are at adult weight. When they can fight off some attackers. An 8 to 10 lb. bird can be a formidable opponent. They are staying in the 26x27 run until fall, from there they will have about 1/8 acre of fenced gardens to scratch up. after that they can free range a 2 acre lot.
