Hey folks,

I have a couple of 7 month old Cochins and Australorps, and getting some hatching eggs later this month. Have ordered an incubator, but would love to go "au naturale" with some other eggs if I can get one of my girls to go broody. Everyone's laying regularly but nobody seems to be exhibiting signs of "nest magnetism" (the 'lorps are laying daily, the cochins are laying once every other day).

Anyone have experience with successfully inciting a chicken to go broody? Especially an uber-broody breed such as a Cochin? How did you do it?

I've never been able to ,, but with cochens it's just a matter of time. I have 2 that I have to tote off the nest every nite and put on the roost , and they are just setting on golf balls .

Pullets and hens will go broody IF and WHEN their hormones tell them to do so. Neither you nor I can make 'em broody. Some never do, even of the breeds considered often broody, whilst some hens of breeds you would never suspect would EVER go broody, do.
