Can you raise baby chicks in unheated garage

I think we ordered ours too.
After the DOA and the loss of the two weak ones in the first 48 hours, the rest are thriving with just a folded towel over my brooder plate. It's only 12x12 so I added the towel to trap the heat and make a slightly larger area.
I left the light on in the brooder area of the coop for them last night. It didn't seem to bother the chickens as they were all passed out when I checked the chicks last night at 11:00.
I knee jerked panicked a bit this morning thinking "slow crop" when I counted 12, lifted the brooder plate to find #13 under there with a bulging crop and looking sleepy until I remembered I'd left the light on for them to eat all night. She was just taking a little warm up nap and darted back out to join the rest.
It's snowing out now and the open area of their brooder is about 38F. They are extremely active and doing excellent. The lights go off today for a normal day/night cycle from here on.

The only issue there is that they occasionally substitute a "better" model if they're out of the one you ordered. So, you want to verify what you have received before opening the package because it isn't returnable once opened.

The brooder is raised about 3 feet off the ground. My husband made it out of wood and half way up the sides and top is surrounded by chicken wire...just don't want to freeze them. Wasn't sure if I needed to add a heat lamp too...the brooder is good size
Just got peeps today! What brand heating pad do you recommend? I am using a light and would prefer not to due to potential fire issues.

That has auto shutoff
