Can you rub or let chickens bathe in DE??

I mix it in with peat moss. I have noticed no dust when the dust bathe. I also use it as a worm preventative in the dogs. I gave bern using it for a long time and we have never had worms--oldest dog is almost 14

The biggest danger with DE is breathing it, and they would definitely breathe it if it were in their dust bath. I used to use it, but don't do it any more, since I learned the various illnesses (human as well as critter) that it can cause when breathed.

It's perfectly safe to eat, if it's marked 'food grade' on the package.
A lot of things are marketed as "FOOD GRADE" Crude oil is one of the better known. You probably know it as Mineral or Baby oil.

Right heaven forbid chickens breath in dust??? Really?? I wear a mask every minute I’m with them because of their dander and dust , we all should wear one ..... de is not a problem as some say , for over 6 years I’ve never seen a worm or mites or lice in my coop .

I’ll never convince the nay sayers , but doesn’t bother me because me and my hens are happy , healthy in a dry ,clean smelling coop

I feed my chickens de and it cleans them so it is ok if they eat it

Actually you’re right it does clean them out ,it is very useful for many animals , I know a man who adds it to his breakfast . There’s food grade and filter grade, food has less then 2% silica, filter has much more (60% I think), there’s much confusion and mis information

Confusion and misinformation indeed, as is common with these “all curing” natural remedies.
I don’t care much for testimonials, I’d rather see hard data:

Your buddy is basically eating sand.

On a side note, your bird’s environment should never be dusty enough to warrant constantly needing a mask. If it irritates your lungs, it’s irritating your chicken’s lungs.

Ok , your opinion based on “ science and skepticism “ as they say on the website is the answer for you.

I’ll go with the results, and as for a dusty coop .. really ? Chicken dander, sand , feed , feathers, we should all wear a mask , my chickens aren’t bothered as they “ dust bathe”but I am ,

I’m done I love de in my coop, in my barn and after this I might just eat it too ... I’m done debating let’s agree to disagree
The End

Does anyone give their chickens a bath. I've been reading about it. What is your view on it?

I had to bathe a girl who'd been broody because she wasn't allowing her sisters near her to help with grooming and developed quite the poop cake. I used Dawn dish soap and just washed the affected area.

Personally, I don't think whole body baths are necessary with otherwise healthy birds. Chickens are not fans of being soaking wet and have their own, efficient way of keeping clean.

Oh good, bathing eight of them would be a bit of a pain. I'm sure they wouldn't be happy about it. Much rather have them doing their dust bath. Seems more natural to me.
