Can you start a new flock later in the summer?

Alas, a fisher killed the remainder of my girls: 3 hens in one weekend ---- my beautiful black Minorca Lenore and her two white buddies. We're going to be doing some traveling this summer, so I am thinking I'm going to refurbish and make my henhouse more secure and enlarge their pen. No more roaming free, sadly.

So would it still work out if I don't get any new chicks until later in the summer? It seems everyone I've known starts their chicks in the spring, but I want to be sure I am home for their first few weeks, until they're big enough to go outside. Usually my neighbor and I take turns "hen sitting" if one or the other is away for a couple of days to a week. I'm sorry, I'm just feeling very sad about my girls right now. Thanks, Anne
