I know this is going to rank right up there with one of the dumbest questions, but can anyone tell what kind of chicken laid these? I don't know if the same one laid both, but I have found that each of my layers' eggs are different shades. My one BO that I know is laying has eggs way darker than either of these.
Do either of these look like barred rock or red sex link eggs?

Please, someone post pics of your br, bo & rsl eggs? thanks!

Well, you could tell what breeds didn't lay an egg by how it looks (for example, those eggs couldn't have come from a silkie). And you could tell what breeds might have laid an egg by how it looks. But it would only narrow it down to breeds that are most likely to have laid the egg. Either a rock or a sex link could have laid either of those eggs. Not much help, I know. But there really is no way to tell the breed just by looking at an egg.

Yeah, that's why I was hoping others would post their pics of eggs from those breeds. I want to say it's the rsl because she's been exhibiting laying behavior & I catch her looking like she's about to lay, but then there's the br pullet that should be getting ready to start laying...and I thought chicken math was bad!
I soooo don't have it in me to squirt food coloring up a chicken's butt...

hmmm...the thought just occurred to me that maybe I have an egg from each of them? The first is smaller & lighter (laid 8/31) than the one that was laid today.
Would it be cruel to put them all on lock-down until they lay their egg for the day?

My red sex links lay a darkish brown egg, vs the lighter tan my RIR's are laying. I only know who is laying what because I found a RIR in the hay outside the coop, let her be, and went back out when the egg song started. I got a little tan pullet egg

Besides, now I'm getting 3 tan eggs and 2 brown eggs...4RIR girls and 2RSL girls

My BR eggs are lighter and have a duller appearance than the Golden Buffs (Meyers for red sex link) whose eggs are darker and shinier if that makes sense.

The BR pic is on the right in the center.

I'd say the lighter one is from your BR. Hannah, my barred rock lays a lighter egg, with a kind of pinkish tinge to it. Not dark at all.

Yeah, I'm gonna have to agree with you & wingznut, especially after the photo posted.
So does anyone have any pics of rsl eggs?

The pic I posted is both BR and RSL the top and left are RSL the one on the far right is BR. The smaller light egg lower right is a first egg from a RSL that did not have an even coat from the paint shop.

duh...must be getting tired. Def not the rsl laying, then. It's all good, though, since I only have one br hen.
Thanks for everyones help. I have really learned a lot on this site.
