I have never been able to sex baby chickens... NEVER NEVER NEVER. But I hope to learn one day. So I have a small flock of Aracanas... and Ive been trying and trying and trying to get a TUFT Rumpless Aracana male for my flock, in 2 years, Ive only produce 2 Tuft chicks, both turned out to be hens, and 1 hen disapeared a few months ago. So Ive now got 2 Tuft Adult Hens and 1 Tuft chick. All the other chicks were born Tuftless.

Here are pics of my chick. Its a few weeks old. Very cute chick. Thanks.

I have a feeling its a hen... but I really dont know. You can bearly see the tuft on the ears of the chick, the other chicks picked some of the feathers off.... So I sold all the chicks for $5 bucks each and only kept 2 rumpless Araucanas... Both are black, and 1 has tufts and 1 does not.

Maybe move this the the "what breed or gender" thread--lots of wisdom there. Personally, I'm thinking too young to tell.

That's a hen, in all my babies I've never had one as flat and dull in the comb like that turn out to be a boy. It's the ones that could be 50/50, sort of a comb, but not really... little pink, but not red... those can flare up into boys in a week. LOL But that one, that's a girl. I learned by watching them grow, took me years when I first got chickens to sell chicks. I stopped buying chicks until I could tell. After that, I was wrong one time. One of those 50/50 "Not sure yet" babies... it was a boy.

My last hatch this past fall... I was in aw, I was like... seriously? 4 girls and a boy? REALLY? No way! But at 12 weeks, it still was!
