I've started a new flock after losing all my previous chickens to a fox in my woods. I'm really wanting to enter my rooster at the county fair, because I just think he's gorgeous! However, I'm not really sure on the breed he is and I need to know for registration. Thanks a lot!

He is stunning! No idea, I'm not good with rooster id. His coloring looks like Golden Duckwing though. Is he standard size or bantam?

Thank you! He's standard size. I've had a few people that come around the house that think he's some form of game chicken, but I will look into the Golden Duckwing breed

Golden Duckwing isn't a breed just a color that is found in several breeds including game birds ;)

And oops just realized its Gold Duckwing not golden.

His leg color looks greenish grey, that may help narrowing down the breed, of course he might be a mix or he legs might not be "properly" colored.

Agree the gold duckwing is a color found on many breeds, and it's easy to get to with mixed breeds. Just cause I like showing my guy off, here's my mixed Eric....

I agree your guy looks to have some game influence, but he seems a bit round bodied to be pure game, they're usually leaner built. Then again, there are so many varieties I can't keep track of them all.

I'm leaning towards that he's mixed. Or really close to a Gold Duckwing Phoenix. Your guy looks great as well! I just can't decide what to put on the registration form. Or can you even enter a mixed chicken? I'm so new at this it's pitiful.

If you're showing for 4H, then I think you can enter with a mixed breed, since they judging you, not the bird. If you're entering him in a poultry club show, then no. You can not enter a mixed breed. They are judging how well that birds matches it's specific breed standard.
