So lovely of you for giving the little one a home. The store must have that cage for day olds- and since this little one wasnt sold it out grew the cage

I would say Campbell too- or at least a duck that will turn out brown in colour if its a cross. Geese have much rounder faces- and are shaped very differently.

Sex is something you may have to wait a while for- it looks maybe 10 days old or so, but that really depends a lot on its previous living conditions. It might be older and just small. In about 2 weeks you should here the voice start to deepen if it is a female. Without another to compare it to- it may be a little hard- or you may just have to wait longer to be sure if you are hearing a girly quack or the whispery warck warck of a male.

Thank you for the replys!!

@drdolittle~ Im REALLY not sure if it is a goose or a duck, the feed store worker said duck but could be a goose for all I know lol.

@duckyfromoz~ Thank you SO much for giving me some info!I am so in the dark about ducks that I thought it was a day old.

I can already tell that I will get MANY more ducks!!They are just so adorable to watch!!I love how they shake their tails!!

You will have to consider getting some day olds at some point if you love this little guy so much already RoxyOtis. They have whats called an egg tooth- a small hard point on the tip of their beak used for breaking out of the egg. They usually loose it in the first few days of life. Also when they are just hatched you can find a tiny little claw at the " elbow" of their wings. This one you have now is old enough to have a swim now. Just dont put in it very deep water or for too long. You can take the chill of the water but not too warm - and make sure you dry him off afterwards- I just give mine a little rub with a towel- then back into a warm brooder so it can preen itself. Watching duckies have a swim is so cute. Especially when they dive right under the water.

Does duckie have a name yet??

I definitely will be getting more ducks soon!!

Is that little pink spot on his bill not his egg tooth?I thought that was what it was,so I assumed he was still very young....or is that natural for ducks to have a pink spot when they are young?
Sorry for all the questions!!Just want to make sure I take good care of him/her!!

No name as of yet,Kind of want to wait to find out the gender but I might just name it and then change it if I have too

The tip of the bill is often different. On some of my ducks it is the opposite - pink beak with a black tip.

I am looking at the length of duckies neck to estimate the age. When they hatch they are more compact. Your little one has quite a long neck and legs ( I wonder maybe if it could be a runner?? but the legs look in the more normal position in the photos ) which is what I am basing its age on.

If the pink spot is the same thing I'm looking at, I THINK that is his/her bean.
Here's how to name your new baby, do what I do-give her a girls name and HOPE for the best(of course, there is no scientific proof that this works, but one can always hope).

Good for you for getting the baby out of a cramped situation.
