Can you use a red light on a timer to have the girls lay all year?

I thaught I had a white light but all I have is a red light, will that work on a timer to help them keep laying? Or should it be a white light?

I also am fairly new to the laying part of this...but my understanding is that they need white light if it is to supplement laying. It should be what they call full spectrum or might be called daylight bulb. Needs to have 6500K of light to match daylight.

Hopefully someone more experienced in the light catagory will have a better answer.

My first winter with my own chickens. Raised them before but it was really my parents doing the work. I did the grunt work. But it's my understanding they need daylight bulbs. Red is mainly for heat.

I have 5 Aracuana, 5 Brahma & 1 Plymouth Rock. I use a heat lamp(on a timer) in the morning from ~5 to 7:30. This is mostly for warmth here in SW Montana. They don't seem to lay any different from late summer.
