My brothers cat passed away recently and he still has an industrial amount of cat litter left over.
I do not have poop boards and all the poop ends up on the ground. I am looking to build poop boards as it will be easier for me to regularly maintain it. I know they like to peck and eat all sorts of things and thats why i am asking first.

I am scared that if i use sand they will try and dust bathe in it. they always do what they aren't supposed to do (sleep and poop in nesting boxes). Are there other alternatives to putting sand if cat litter is a no no?

I'm thinking cat litter would not be safe...I had a poop board before but took it out. I only ran a line of sand directly under each roost so they would Poop on the sand. Then used a cat litter scoop to pick up dropping each morning.

What kind of cat litter is it?
I would not use cat litter if I were you.

Are you going to use sand on the ground or in the coop?
In our coop we use pine shavings in the nest boxes and in the run we have mulch.

I also would not use cat litter..especially anything clumping or scented.

I see many brands have blue flecks in them....not sure what those blue flecks are. :hmm

Save the cat litter for oil drops and automotive fluid leaks.

I agree with the others, cat litter does not seem safe to use. They put chemicals in it to keep the odors down. I would not want my chickens eating that.
