I got a beautiful Black Copper Maran pullet from Heidi at Greendale Heritage Farms last year. She's gorgeous!!!

I started 2 yrs. ago with hatchery chicks , wanted all RI Reds, but got half sussex cross. Added ISA brown pullets last spring, and then added 7 Australorp pullets and 3 cockerels last August. Now I have 30 laying hens. Didn't realize how broody the Australorps are. Started laying 2 months ago, and now have 4 of them setting on nests. Not what I wanted in the middle of winter. Was going to set up a separate breeding pen in the spring. Anyone have any tips on what to do with winter chicks? Will the other birds kill them in the coop? Also have 2 Blue Austalorp roos for sale. (decided I only need 1).

Welcome from Prince Edward Island -- on the other side of Canada. I will have heritage chicks (silver pencilled Plymouth Rocks), but you will be able to get some heritage chicks much closer to you in BC. If you don't find a contact here, try the Poultry Swap Ontario website, or the Alberta Chickens website.
