Canadians check in here....

I am sorry for your loss :( I am VERY new to the chicken world, in fact I haven't even got our chickens yet, but what I will tell you is that we ordered some barred plymouth rocks from Frey's hatchery. They are located in Guelph Ontario. They are a big hatchery, I actually ordered the chicks through our local farm store, but I believe you can order directly from them too. You can check them out at www.freyshatchery.com. I myself an trying to find a few of the unique breeds in my area, but other than silkies and wyandottes haven't found anything else. Hope that helps! Good luck with everything.

Thanks for everyones suggestions. I have been watching Kijiji, NLClassifieds and NLBuyandSell sites for almost 2 months now--no luck. I have called a hatchery that is located on the island but the name is misleading as they only grow broilers. Sometimes excess chicks are sent to co-op store here. I contacted the co-op store and they order mainly Lohmanns layers ( a breed I had never seen mentioned on any of the sites I have been visiting for the last 2 months) sometime in April. They seem somewhat generic and not what I want right now. It looks like chicks may not be an option. I am thinking of building an incubator but then I have to source fertile eggs. Any suggestions???

Near Peterborough Ontario...have EE and JG and also assorted brown egg layers.....

Wait! Do not give up yet!!! I just found an amazing breeder in Belleville, ON who has EVERY breed you could possibly imagine, and if he doesn't have it, he may be able to source it. I know he will not deliver inside of Ontario, but he will deliver out of province! Check him out at www.performancepoultry.com. I have already ordered some day olds myself!

Young Chick they do have quite a variety and I had thought of going this route but they need a minimum order of 25 chicks in order to ship. I wish I had room for them but at the moment we are still living within the city limits and city by-laws limit us to 3. I think my best route is to source fertile eggs as seem to be a little easier to ship. Anyone that can help me acquire fertile eggs??? Finding anything within the province seems doubtful. Any suggestions appreciated.
