Canadians check in here....

Hi from Windsor! We have 1 EE, 1 Hamburg, 2 ISA Browns , 4 Buff orps & 1 BO Roo :). Our incubator arrives next week & im planning to hatch out Buff Orps . Getting ready to expand our coop!
Welcome!
What incubator did you buy? I'm still dragging my heels on getting one.
Is the weather pretty horrible there? It must be horribly humid.

It can be very humid but not constantly. Windsor is a good place to live if you want to experience ALL weather conditions ;). I admit I didn’t read long & bought a Yosoo Automatic on Amazon. Hopefully it works lol. ‍

I hope so too! I borrowed a friend's incubator this year (first time hatching). I definitely know that I'll never buy a hovabator. Horrible hatch rates. Could not control temperatures or humidity. I was having to check it every hour. :th

Hey all, Okanagan Valley checking in. No chickens yet but working on it, gonna finish my coop in the fall for some chicks in the spring. Looking at getting some Australorps and Rhode island Reds. Just gotta find a hatchery in BC for them.

Hi General :welcome
Only been to your neck of the woods once but loved it! Gorgeous.

If you use Facebook, there are quite a few chick/egg selling groups for Canada. There's even a Western Canada one that just started up. There's also a Canadian breeders review group that can steer you to the best people to deal with.

We are wanting to to raise 2-3 backyard chickens. We have a fenced in area that we will be keeping the coop (that we made) in. As well as we will be making a small run to attatch. I live in Canada, Ontario and was wondering how the chickens are you going to survive the winters here. They drop down to -20s -30s. Will 2-3 chickens survive?

What breeds?
Mine did fine last winter when we had long spells of -40. The one thing I'd recommend is use 2x4s laid flat for the roost. Their whole foot will fit on and they can keep the toes warm.
Btw :welcome
