Hi everyone. It is a nice day here in Dixville,Quebec. I would like to thank-you for your help. With the names you have provided, I have been able to find some info. I now have a good idea of how to make a home for my beloved partridges to be. I have almost convinced my hubby to build the enclosure. He is a not too keen on my project. He built a pretty large stable last summer (30ft X 50ft) in his spare time after work and he was looking forward to relaxing a little this year. For my partridges I will build a 12X10 outside pen with any luck I will find a used dog pen on the classified, it won't take too long to close off the top and secure the sides to keep predators out. All dear hubby will have to build is a little closed structure to provide shelter for the animals and my food. I now have a name of someone who is about 2 hours away who may have some to sell. I plan on contacting them today. Now for my next question. I hacthed eggs from my laying brown hens last summer and lucky me I ended up with mostly rooster. I think my ratio now is 11 hens for 7 or 8 roosters. I am not sure because I have been in a cast, followed by a brace for the last 9 weeks, I have just started getting back into my coop and realized this. I am going to separate them and I was thinking of putting the roosters into a cage and letting them gain a bit of weight before killing them for my freezer. Can I put 2 in a cage or will they fight togethet if they do not have access to my hens? How old should they be before I kill them? Will they be eatable? The first batch of hens we had given to us, we killed when they were about 2 yrs old and the meat was very rough. We have not tried since because we found it was alot of work for major flop.
