Canadians check in here....

What do you all do for feed with a flock that has both chickens & ducks? I only have access to a duck/goose grower (20%) and a poultry grower (16%). I don’t want to feed the layer feed (17%) because I have roos & a drake that don’t need the extra calcium. I just don’t know what would be the best for a mixed flock.
I feed a layer mixed with rolled oats, barley, whole corn, BOSS & a little bit of dry cat food. I put a few Niacin vitamin tablets in their water.

I used turkey grower on the recommendation from a breeder that I picked up chicks from. She did that with all her chickens. Roundcreek Quarter horses. She has a website. Not a problem! That is how we learn things! I also have about 2 dozen chicken books for reference. :pop:love:caf:frow
I use turkey for my chicks too. They seem to thrive better vs. Chicken.

A grower that is 16%, and whole corn. My ducks were always fine on the 16% even when i owned females who raised many clutches. I just had free choice oyster shell out if they needed the extra boost.

Hey lovely chicken peeps.....I don't know what to do....4 of my "pullets" ended up being cockerels. I can't have them within city limits cause of the noise they make. We love the little guys, but don't want to risk having to lose the entire flock.....any ideas on how to keep them quiet or where I can rehome them? Thanks!!

CK local chicken Facebook pages for people who will purchase or to give away. Depending on the breeds, will tell you what you can get for them. Heritage and rare breeds will sell. Others may have to be free. Good luck!

It’s been a while since I’ve popped my head in here

I hope everyone is doing well! It’s been getting cold again here and I was wondering if any fellow Canadians have frizzles and can share how they keep them warm in the winter months?

I have 3 frizzles, 2 pullets and a cockerel. The pullets are fine as they are with 8 other chickens in the main coop and haven’t been shivering yet. But Ori isn’t fairing as well in the little coop with only one pullet to keep him warm, he’s a silkie mix bantam with one heck of a bed head.

Moving him into the main coop is out of the question as the girls are a mean bunch that would bully him without relenting and my Ameraucana cockerel is inhabiting it currently. :barnie

when I do a switch-a-roo (pun intended) of my boys Peter and Artie I’ll have one of those cosy coop heat plates that was mentioned earlier in this thread free to use in his coop. I was hoping to save that for when it goes down in the very low temps, it does have a low and high setting but I don’t want them to be rendered useless if the power goes out and the generator can’t be prioritized for their coop.. the final option would be bringing them inside but he has quite a high pitched crow :gig so that would be difficult with the house’s current inhabitants.

This turned into quite the rant, I’m a little sorry but if you read this through I appreciate it and thank you in advance for any help!
