Casastash, do you keep them separate? If not, how well do they do in the flock. We haven't introduced them to our wyandottes yet and wonder if we should build a separate roost for them.

Our chicks from our adult birds?

We are brooding indoors at the moment due to the hostile weather but next week they will go in one of our adult pens with an “escape room”

We take a wire dog kennel and put them in the coop for a few days so they can meet and interact with the adults through the bars. after a few days we open the kennel door and put a piece of cardboard in front of the opening with a tiny chick Sized hole. We start the chicks inside and let them venture out as comfortable.

We use a momma heating pad ( regular heating pad draped over a metal wire cave) den to keep warm.

I have a split flock of older cranky hens and two Roos and younger birds, they will go with the youngsters but when we free range everyone is together.

We do the same integration with quail but monitors closely because quail can be ruthless!

Ahh never mind I get your question!!!

They will be picked on for sure so another roost to escape would help.

Our orpingtons are older and still aren’t top of the pecking order. I would place them in the coop at night and check on them in the morning

I think if your current coop has plenty of space you will be fine, they will form they’re own groups and mind their business. If quarters are tight things can get hairy
