Canary food for quails?

In preparation for my pair of Button Quails, I bought some supplies yesterday. I was planning to buy some "Gamebird Crumble", but the employee at the shop said that Button Quails can subsist on Canary seed, so I bought that instead, but is that true? Thanks in advance for any help.

That is absolutely not true you were wise to check back here. They need many many times the amount of protein than what is in a seed mix.

Those two sites contain a lot about raising buttons aside from just feed requirements and after reading them you'll know most of what you'll need.

Adult buttons need 50% game bird crumble and 50% canary/finch seed. A good quality seed mix with rapeseed, Niger thistle seed, red millet, canary grass, white proso millet. This is for NON breeding pairs. When breeding they need higher protein so reduce the amount of seeds, 20-30% and increase the crumbles 60-80%. I also feed mashed hard boiled chicken egg for added protein. Give them fruit and fresh veggies daily as well. Meal worms are a snack food ONLY they are fattening so limit them. And lots of cool fresh water.
