canary question!

i have a pair of canaries and the female has set on three batches of eggs this year. the first batch she laid 5 eggs and one hatched and they did a great job raising him/her, afer he fledged she immediatly laid 5 more eggs, after a week i candled those eggs and none were fertile and they were stuck to the cotton in her nest becuase the older baby pooped in thenest and it dried the egs to the cotton, so i threw the old nest out and she built another nest and laid four eggs, well that was three weeks ago and there are still no babies and all the eggs are dirty red, so i know that they arent fertile.


so should i take the eggs out or let her decide when to give up???

I have an older male in with a young hen. She keeps laying eggs and setting but none hatch..Appears they are not fertile..
I read that you should only use young males...
How old is your male?

Well, I have no idea how old they are I'm pretty sure they are young I got then from a pretty reputable store but they did have one chick I think they arent mating I don't know I don't really watch them

you should only breed your canaries once a yr, or at the most 2, the hen will become calcium deficient, i've lost 2 hens from letting lay when they wanted, the hens are so ready to lays eggs they go around the middle man (the male) and forget to breed before they lay

Canaries will keep breeding if there is a nest available. After the canary chicks are weaned, you can breed the birds again then remove the nest to give the birds a breeding break of at least 6 months. Canaries become worn out and become in poor condition if they are bred too much and could sometimes die. I think the reason for all your unfertile eggs might be because your birds may not be properly conditioned.
