Okay, so turning a new leaf.
I have set two going into "lockdown" on Friday. I have many more eggs in this batch that are developing beautifully compared to my first batch. This is a mix of my friend's chicken eggs from down the road, many breeds. Mostly easter-eggers. There is also one single well developing rouen/runner egg in there.
I have more plans too. Yesterday my husband and I went and bought a really nice incubator that's thermostatically controlled and has an automatic turner. Holds a bunch of eggs. So.... updates on that too.
In the meantime, we're enjoying our fuzzies.
Interesting thread, I see many of you aren't too far from me. I currently have 24 in my Brinsea Eco 20 w/turner and will be setting more soon in a hova-bator I borrowed from the Boyscout troop leader. I borrowed it last fall and killed 4 batches of eggs. I now have some advice how to make it work better and if not will be replacing the fan with another and rewiring it to run constant instead of only when it's heating. I also have a home-made incubator I made out of a cooler/fridge from a pop up camper that I used for lock-down. I originally set 24 eggs in my brinsea but after candling noticed I had 10 non-fertiles eggs. To my suprise I realized that the eggs I had been pulling from the coop they came from didn't have a rooster in it for some time. I re-filled so I will be having a staggered hatch. 14 will be due on the 2nd and the other 10 due 5 days after. I have had 100% hatch all last year with the Brinsea and very glad I purchased it. Good luck with all your hatches. Oh and I'm hatching BLRW, SS, BLRWxAmericauna and some BOxMaran. My BLRW are all Foley stock so I'm very excited for them to hatch.
I sure wish I had a cabinet incubator. I had the opportunity last year to purchase one from same friend I got the Brinsea but passed as I never in a million years thought I'd want to hatch so many at a time but boy was I wrong, I'ts such an addiction!
