Candling at Day 3....

speckled hen- I will try to contain myself until Tues/Wed to look at them again...I do understand that it is poreous, and unfortunately all the ones I got from in-laws are porous, so I hope that I get at least 1 out of the 7 to hatch....What can they do to stop the eggs from being so poreous?

I think they go through cycles with the porosity. If they're getting enough calcium, there isn't much you can do to fix that. And most of them can hatch, so don't worry too much about it.

I was so excited to start the process of hatching baby chicks that I wanted to candle early as well, just to see. I found it very frustrating and I kept second guessing myself. I just put all the eggs back in the bator and waited. Today is day 12 and so far all of the eggs I have checked I have had healthy, moving, chicks.

When I candled mine at day 3 all I could see were the yolks and air sacks. Yesterday was day five, and when I candled again I could see VERY clear development in most of my eggs.

I just candled again, and yes I know I shouldn't be, but at least I am doing the same egg, LOL..


all the way on the top (fat end) there is a little clear area circumferential, then a circumferential dark area bigger than the clear, and then it is clear again, but the top clear and bottom clear look different....I am thinking that the top clear is the air sac, but when I move the egg, nothing moves and in another egg, the dark area moves....H E L P, Lol...
