Candling chicken eggs

When's the latest time too candle a chicken egg, as in the day.
And I gave my friend an egg and he said it took the egg about 6 weeks to hatch, knowing that eggs should hatch at around 21 days, is there anything wrong?

6 weeks? All my eggs have been 21 days, consistently. I don't know if I'd believe the 6 weeks, but perhaps stranger things have happened. Perhaps others are wiser in this area...

Personally I candle mine every 7 days, that's days 7 and 14, to sort out what develops and what not.
