Well, I can't upload the videos for some reason, but I have found something that worked, at least for me, for candling very dark eggs! I ended up getting an actual candler(since I obviously couldn't see through these with a regular flashlight) and was still having trouble...Even after looking online, most people's best suggestion was to float test them, which I can't do this early and on top of that, the idea kind of freaks me out with getting water temp right for long enough...Anyway, I candled them a few days ago and could see movement in about five eggs(out of twenty-five), but most were just too dark to see much more than a mild glow. I decided to candle them again because I knew a handful had a ring and I figured by now I would be confident at least on the ones that were sure gone.

This time, I decided to take a picture of one for my sister, but what I realized after looking at the egg through the camera is that it picked up the movement I couldn't see! I don't mean subtle either, though a couple were...I mean I could even see the veining on most that I hadn't been able to see without the camera! I wish I could share the videos, but I'll add a couple screenshots from them to show it. I'm just thrilled I can actually see what's going on and figured I would share in case it works for anyone else!

Nice pictures! :thumbsup
Don't float test, it's not a "test" unless you are testing how fast you can kill your incubated eggs... :(

Some people test quickly later on in their incubation and the ones that move are good, the ones that don't are duds, but a couple of my live ones already somehow have moisture in the air bubble, so if they survive to hatch day, I will have to be very careful with them...Adding a float test to that would be detrimental I would think...These two are two of the darkest, but like I said, I could only see into about five of them without the camera! 😊

Do you have a good/decent candler? I didn't have any olive eggs, but there were a couple plum
I have a Brinsea "OvaView". It usually works great, but I somehow lost the black rim around the light area. The light leaks through horribly and makes it hard to see anything. I'm trying to find it where I stored my light from last year. :fl

What a novel idea our marans are so dark the Son does my candeling (my vision is bad)
think I will do the photo upload them here later today want to wait for dark

I actually took the extra rim out of mine(though it was probably meant for smaller eggs) and just have to turn and angle them to make sure the light isn't leaking out too much...I am trying to keep mine in one place, but I'm bad at that myself 👀

Trying with the camera may even help with a little extra light, ya never know! I was just very excited to finally be able to see them all Lol

Just a few extras...These look much lighter, but I still couldn't see any of this in person! I had shortened two videos and the first pictures I posted were only from that album(video editor), so here's from three more!
