candling dark eggs

I'm brand new to hatching and I'm trying 6 maran eggs that I'm not possitive were fertilized..... I took them out today and tried candling them. I couldn't see in any of them. I was trying with a flash light- anything else I might try? I did noticed one of the eggs was cracked

I figured this chick would not hatch so I cracked it open. It defiantly was a developing chick. Should I have left it? I am pretty sure bacteria would have entered the shell.

Two flashlights I had were not enough to get through my eggs so I bought an LED flashlight for 20 bucks. It gets through them MUCH better. We just found a maglite in storage and that baby is going to be a breeze to candle with!! Sorry about the cracked egg, depends how bad the crack is I think. If it was a very small crack I might have left it.
