Hi all! I am incubating eggs for the first time and I'm so excited to be on day 14. I need to cull some of these but it's so hard to make the decision. What if I'm wrong?! I recorded today's candling hoping some of your could help me. These are long videos so only look if you have some time but there are some wiggly chicks in there so you may enjoy watching.

At this point I'm considering culling # 1,2, 17, 22, 23, 21, 19 and 4.

What do you think?

Part 1

Part 2

Thank you!

Leslie

I know sorry. I changed it.

Ok don't hate me but from what I can tell I would say all these numbers are bad. 18, 15, 1, 20, 14, 13, 12, 2, 17, 16, 22, 6, 21, 19 and 4. But I wish you the best of luck with the rest of them. And I hope I'm wrong lol

Oh man! I hope you're wrong too! Lol but I couldn't possibly hate you after watching 30 min of video. I watched it again with your comments in mind and I think I am definitely giving in on 18 1 20 2 17 22 21 19 and 4.

So I should remove those right away, correct? Also do you usually open them up to see what happened? I'm really terrified to do that. I just dont want to see a dead chicken! I guess I'd actually hate it more if it was alive.

But it's part of the deal I'm sure.

Thank you for your help!

Ok, here's my opinions- 18/1/12/2/17/16/6/21/ clears 22/19/4 early quitters 15/14/13 look like there's been development but possibly quit or are behind

The ones I think are good and have the best chance: 9/11/25/24/8/3/26/10/7/23/ and the one after 19 and before 4 for which I didn't catch a number.

I would pull clears and blood rings and leave any questionables in the bator. After day 10 I don't pull anything unless there is bsolutely no doubt it's gone. Eggsplosions do happen, but not often. If there's a smell then pull what smells. Good luck with the hatch!

I don't open clears anymore, but I do eggtopsy any that have development. Partially because it's educational and partially just out of curiosity. I highly recommend eggtopsying eggs after hatch is complete especially if there is a lot of DIS chicks because it can point to where the problems are (of course it can make you more confused too.) However, eggtopsies aren't for everyone. There are people that just can not deal with seeing the chicks make it to hatch and die in the shell. IF a person can't handle eggtopsies, then really, they shouldn't attempt them, but I highly recommend doing for those who can.

Thank you, Amy Lynn! Very specific and helpful.

The thing is, almost all the questionable ones were shipped. I didn't know that could be an issue with fertile eggs until after I ordered them. I'm going to have lots of Polish and welsummers (both locally purchased) and one lavender americauna. Once they hatch next week, I'll get some different ones locally.

Shipping is very hard on eggs. Some worse than others. A lot depends on how they are packaged, but even then you can have perfectly packed eggs and depending how they are handled via the post can get none or near 100%. If you get 50% hatch rate on shipped eggs you're doing good. That's why so far I have not attempted shipped eggs. I've hatched in the vicinity of 75 chicks this past year all local.

I love polish they are awesome.

They were packaged beautifully an the weather was mild the two days they took to get here I'm feeling sad because they were really the breeds I wanted! The Polish were Bator fillers! I do think I will enjoy them though
